Who to Call After a Car Accident

Posted on

If you have your cell phone handy after a car accident, you can use it to call a few different people who can help you out with your situation. These are some of the people you should call after you get into a car accident.

911

The first number that you should call after a car accident is 911 or your area's emergency or non-emergency line, depending on the severity of the accident. Then, law enforcement should be dispatched to your location to take a police report, and ambulances might be sent out to provide necessary medical care to you and anyone else who might have been involved in the accident.

Your Doctor

If you don't get help from a paramedic at the accident site and if your injuries don't seem to be too severe, you can call your doctor to schedule an appointment to get checked out. You should not skip this step, though, even if you don't think that anything is wrong.

A Family Member

It's always a good idea to call a family member or close friend to let them know about your situation. You might find that having a little bit of support will be helpful, and your loved ones will probably want to know where you are and whether or not you are okay.

Towing Company

If your car was seriously damaged in the car accident, then you aren't going to be able to drive it home. This means that you may want to call a towing company. Then, you can have your car picked up and towed to a repair shop. This will help you get it repaired as soon as possible and will also help you prevent it from blocking the road or being at risk of being damaged due to not being in a safe place.

An Auto Accident Attorney

Even though it might not be your first call, you should definitely get in contact with an auto accident attorney, like those at the Garrison Law Firm, as soon as possible after your car accident. Then, you can talk to the lawyer about your accident and can get help with handling it the right way. For example, if the accident was not your fault, your attorney can help you make sure that all of your expenses are covered by the other driver's insurance company.

Your Insurance Company

You will need to report the accident that you're involved in to your auto insurance company. Then, you can start the claims process. In some cases, you may be able to report your accident online instead, if you would prefer.
